The staples, necessities, and best of the best
for cooking and baking with celiac disease.
-
Almond Flour
The ultimate flour replacement in baking. Making sure the almond flour is finely ground from blanched almonds will ensure your baked goods are smooth.
-
Arrowroot Flour
I often use this in place of corn starch. I also add it to soups or sauces to thicken them. Arrowroot is extracted from the roots of the arrowroot plant (a large perennial herb).
-
Coconut Flour
I never use coconut flour as the main binder in my baking, however, I will use it to absorb liquid or to create a fluffy texture. Also, since I don’t use sugar to bake, this flour adds sweetness!
-
Grain-free chips
I was not about to say goodbye to chips and salsa. PTL for chips made with cassava. Siete makes great/clean taco seasoning as well.
-
Plant-Based Butter
If you’re similar to me and cannot do dairy, this is the best plant/nut-based butter on the market that also tastes amazing. Be careful of other brands that contain gums, preservatives, or gluten. (Check out Miyoko’s cream cheese too!)
-
Ghee Butter
If you can handle a little dairy, this is a great butter replacement. Its rich, creamy, and salty flavor allows you to forget there’s no milk! High in vitamins and packed with healthy fatty acids for gut health.
-
Chocolate
This is THE chocolate of all chocolate. Rich, creamy, soft, and delicious while being free of all the things. It comes in a variety of flavors so I can eat it plain or melt it to bake with it.
-
Almond Milk
For smoothies, coffee creamer, cereal, granola, you name it! This brand has 3 simple ingredients to keep things clean and safe.
-
Numi Tea
This is my favorite brand of tea because their tea bags are plant-based which means yucky fiber will not be seeping into your drink.
-
Tea
I have at least one cup of peppermint tea every day. Don’t forget to make sure your tea does not contain any weird “natural flavorings,” preservatives, or additives.
-
Olive Oil
Unless olive oil is single origin, we have no idea if it’s actually olive oil. It could be moldy processed oil, oof! This is the only single-origin olive oil I use.
-
Shampoo
Yes, we even need gluten-free, clean shampoo/conditioner!
-
Deodorant and Skin Care
Cleanest deodorant that works well! I also use this brand for my face wash, dry shampoo, and body lotion.
-
Toothpaste
It’s really important to me that everything that enters my body is labeled as gluten-free. This toothpaste not only tastes good but also gets the job done. Dr. Bronner’s is also the brand I use for body wash.
-
Water Filter
It is so important to stay hydrated, especially if you do get sick and need to flush out your system. This water filter is BPA-free & “targets Fluoride, Lead, BPA, Glyphosate, PFOAs, Hormones & over 365 of the most harmful tap water impurities.”
-
Blender & Food Processor
The real MVP of the kitchen. I probably use this every day. When making cookies, soups, or crumbles, this blends ingredients well. Because almond flour can be dense, it is essential to blend your ingredients to create a smooth result without any “graininess.”
-
Instant Pot
We use our instant pot almost every week! Hard-boiled eggs, raw frozen chicken, pasta, soups, and reheating. It’s easy to use and makes meals come together so quickly.
-
Pots and Pans
Without butter or spray-on grease, our pans need to be able to cook our food without sticking. Plus, it is vital that harmful chemicals are not caking into our food. This brand is toxin-free and food effortlessly glides! I also use this brand for non-toxic/plastic-free food storage!
-
Spatulas
I try to avoid using wooden spoons because I fear that once regular flour, rice, or butter are used on the wood there are always remnants left into the spoon that then will cross-contaminate. These mini ones are my fav! Plus dishwasher safe!
-
Food Organization
It may be time-consuming to empty out fours, pasta, and crackers into these storage containers, but the pay-off is unreal! WIth all the ingredients I keep on hand, it keeps them accessible and organized.
-
Gluten Digest
I take this supplement after a gluten exposure or as a preventative! The supplement sends digestive enzymes into our bodies to help break down gluten faster! It does not take away the pain away but instead speeds up recovery process.
-
Journal
I love journaling. It helps me to process situations, feel my emotions, and express my hopes and desires. These journals are some of my favorites!
-
Heating Pad
Talk about instant relief and comfort! I love my heating pad for cramps and moments of pain.
